Welcome to Vallivue Middle School.

On behalf of the faculty and staff, I would like to welcome you to the 2020-2021 school year!  This school year is unlike any year we have ever experienced.  The COVID-19 pandemic has wreaked havoc on our country and our world.  It has made us look at and change the way we live our daily lives. Coming off of the sudden shutdown of our schools and our way of life in general has been incredibly challenging.  The stress and anxiety that has hit every family in America due to the pandemic has been tremendous.  We realize, it has been a long five and a half months for parents, students and teachers, alike.  Our society has been forced to change the way we now do business. This includes how we deliver education to our students.

School districts around the country have chosen a variety of ways to start up school again.  There is no debate our kids need to be in school and must continue their education.  The Vallivue School District believes students need to be with their teachers; even if it is in a lesser capacity than the traditional model.  VSD has chosen to provide a hybrid system that mixes live instruction with distance learning.  This allows us to provide the social and in person contact children need, while still providing an opportunity for them to continue their lessons at home.  In addition, the ability to split our school population will provide an extra measure of safety to keep our students and staff as safe as possible.  This model also gives students better insight as to what life as a college students could look like.

I am proud of the way our students, teachers and parents have been able to adapt to this situation and I believe our students will still be the beneficiaries of a great education.  The staff of Vallivue Middle School is committed to preparing each individual for success now and in the future.  This is accomplished through our focus on creating an academically rigorous learning environment, both on-campus and via distant learning, that promotes college and career goals through a standards-based curriculum and student-centered interaction. VMS is an AVID (Advancement Via Individual Determination) school and we are working to become a national demonstration school.  The use of AVID strategies in the classroom is a key factor in the success of many of our students.

At VMS, we believe in skill-based, hands-on, brain-based lessons and activities. We model and encourage a "growth mindset" in which students are challenged to take on new learning opportunities and overcome obstacles through hard work and perseverance. We are committed to providing students with the skills necessary to enter high school and graduate with the skills to successfully complete college or professional technical training. Through high standards and expectations, our goal is help our students learn how to think critically.

We appreciate the support of our community and we look forward to working with our students in this new capacity.

Sincerely,

Todd Zucker, Principal
